Department Head of IT-Operations (m/f/d)

This is a hybrid role combining management & leadership of the IT team in Frankfurt with senior data centre engineering responsibilities. The role reports functionally into the Head of UK & International Data Centres with dotted line reporting to the Global Head of IT Operations and the UK & International CIO.

Your Responsibilities

  • Central point of contact & accountable for all IT activities within the Frankfurt Office

  • Supporting the business to deliver their IT requirements within the global IT governance structure

  • Building & maintaining relationships with senior management across the region and representing IT in regional management forums / committees.

  • Escalating regional issues to regional CIO or global IT head(s) as appropriate

  • Line management of regional IT staff, ensuring clear objectives are set and issues are managed / escalated as appropriate

  • Supporting IT teams in the management of regional IT projects to ensure delivery to time, scope and budget and finally helping to compile annual budgets in conjunction with the business and senior IT management

  • Managing IT vendors in the region ensuring service level agreements are in place where necessary, agreed service levels are delivered to and that the best value is achieved for the Bank

  • Regional IT representative to regulators and internal/external auditors

  • Working with IT PMO and Global Business Continuity Management to plan and co-ordinate business continuity activity as required

  • Co-ordination of IT operations services within the region (1st level support, device management, recertification etc.) and general co-ordination of IT incident & change management within the region (including assuming the role of incident manager as required)

  • Provide backup coverage for end user / 1st level support as required

  • Ensuring the stability and functional operation of the server infrastructure (physical/virtual) and core services such as Active Directory, virtual environments, file services, e-mail services (MS Exchange, Mobile Iron) and other services in IT Operations team remit

  • Servicing operational requests, incident/problem resolution including root cause analysis

  • Working as part of a larger global team whilst also operating independently on certain issues such as requests and IT infrastructure related projects

  • Assisting colleagues through knowledge transfer, actively participating in meetings, maintain and contributing to security standards and policies as well as maintaining peer review processes for change management tasks

Requirements

  • A university degree in a technical field and\or equivalent qualifications

  • Experience of team leading/management and delivering high quality operational support ideally in an investment bank or similar financial/ blue chip organization

  • Substantial experience in a senior role performing server Infrastructure support; ideally in an investment bank or similar financial/blue chip organization

  • Strong knowledge of virtualization technologies, in particular VMware is essential – VCP certification or equivalent experience is required

  • Certification on Microsoft (Windows Server 2008/12 R2, Microsoft Active Directory 2012/16 R2, Microsoft Lync 2013\Shoretel Messaging) technologies is desirable

  • Able to complete engineering, architecture and design work, evaluate products, create proposals, conduct testing, write documentation and implement resilient solutions that meet the Banks standards (Virtualization platforms (ESXi 6.0 and 6.5), Citrix XenApp 7.XX. Citrix Xen Desktop VDI technologies, Root cause analysis methodologies, Mobile messaging platforms, Understanding of Firewall and networking infrastructure, Exchange 2010/2016, HP Blade and Rack server platforms)

  • Hands-on experience supporting high-end critical systems and applications, enterprise clustered and HA systems

  • Experience of Enterprise hardware systems such as:

    • Enterprise and mid-range storage systems (3PAR))

    • HP ProLiant servers and Blade systems

    • HP Tape libraries

    • Backup software (CommVault)

  • Good working knowledge of ITIL with a strong grasp of incident/change/problem management as well as a proven ability to manage & deliver projects

  • Excellent team working and relationship building skills - ability to lead teams and manage / motivate staff whilst retaining a strong client focus

  • Planning and organisational skills

  • Ability to multitask and work hours required to meet deadlines (including flexibility to perform out of hours tasks and changes if required)

  • Excellent oral, presentation and written communication skills

  • Ability to adapt to a multicultural working environment in a global organisation

  • Flexibility to perform out of hour’s tasks and changes

  • Knowledge of Banking processes and application work flows including end of day processing

  • Fluent English and German speaker (Russian would be useful but no essential)
